Jamey, the fish-flogged.

The past few weekends have been so much fun! They totally make up for the not-so-fabulous weeks in between.

For Memorial Weekend Jamey bissfully enjoyed doing absolutely nothing–although I did make some fantastic hors d’œuvre to eat while we watched the Indy 500 (on television this year, not in person), and we went to see the film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which was fabulous.

This past weekend was much busier: we attended the Shuttlebration on Friday, went to see the Alley Theatre presentation of Noises Off! Saturday, and had a really fun kayaking adventure on Sunday. In case you’re wondering, the Shuttlebration was a celebration to welcome the full-sized replica of the Space Shuttle that used to be at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, but will now reside at Space Center Houston. It was a really fun event, and I’m glad we went. Noises Off! is a hilarious play-within-a play by Michael Frayn, and the Alley Theatre did a great production of it. Kayaking is always an adventure here because we always see the neatest things–this time we saw lots of beautiful shore birds, two deer swimming in the water, one small alligator, and lots of jumping fish, one of which jumped right into Jamey’s kayak. Watching him bounce around the kayak after it whacked him in the chest, trying to simultaneously catch the fish and avoid it while it was flopping around was so funny. We both laughed for a long time afterwards, even when we were cleaning the fish smell out of his kayak and his clothes. I wish I’d been quick enough to grab my camera, but I was afraid I would drop it in the water, I was laughing so hard.

This weekend will bring more adventures–we’re going to Dallas to see the Firestone 550 at Texas Motor Speedway, which is always fun–I’ll tell you all about it in the next blog post. In the meantime enjoy the lists and have a fabulous rest of the week!
